Just a few things to keep you up to date on the happenings around the arena and in the association. Does it seem a bit dark around the arena lately? It’s not just the dark Covid cloud but a few of the overhead lights are out too! Unfortunately, the lights have been on backorder since before Christmas. We’ve been assured they should ship soon, so keep your fingers crossed for a brighter February. Pictures are a go!! You will be receiving a photo packet in the next week or so from your manager. Photo date is up in the air yet but should be in about 2 weeks. We’ll let you know asap!
As some of you know we currently don’t have any arena staff, volunteers are doing everything! So, please bear with us and contribute where you can. We are asking that after each game the team or designated parents will check locker rooms, take out garbage, sweep as needed and sanitize so the rink will be clean and ready for the next group. There is a checklist on a clipboard by the office with cleaning/sanitizing tasks that need to be completed after every game and as often as possible. Please initial them when done and don’t forget to put those volunteer hours in the new book that’ll be located on the board room table! Cleaning supplies have been moved to the boardroom to ensure easy access for all.
Mandatory fundraisers have been adjusted this year! This past fall we had a very successful garage sale that helped us eliminate our dinners. Start saving your items for the garage sale this summer! We will still be doing our yearly raffle with each family selling a minimum of 3 books. Same as last year we will offer cash prizes for the top 3 sellers and volunteer hour deductions for each book sold after the mandatory 3. Tickets will be distributed in the next couple weeks and we’ll have until mid-March to sell!
The last and biggest item is mandatory volunteer hours! This year hours have been decreased to better accommodate families. Hours are as follows – Varsity from 25 to 20, Bantams, 15U, PeeWees and Squirts from 30 to 25, all Mites 10. If you haven’t done so already, please turn your volunteer hour check ($20/hr) into your manager asap. Your check will be cashed if you do not complete your hours in full. This year there are no stipulations on where you must fulfill those hours. However, if you are asked by your managers to complete hours in a certain area please do so. Managers try to rotate areas, so no parent is stuck doing one specific thing all the time. Whether you are exempt or not you are still required to work your own games. Volunteer hours are given to families that need the hours first then assigned to exempt families. If you prefer not to work in a certain area and are scheduled there, please trade with another parent. If you are worried about completing your hours, please reach out to your manager for ideas or talk to another team manager about covering some of their games. Older teams will always take extra volunteers.
In closing, we’d just like to say thank you to all! This association would not be here without you and all your hard work to keep it going. Please continue to share with the board things that need attention, fixing or ideas on how to make something better! Also, keep in mind anyone you think would be a great addition to our non-existent rink staff!
