Little Panthers Learn to play

Park Rapids Amateur Hockey Association is excited to announce the second season of the Little Panthers Learn to Play program! Little Panthers will serve as the entry level program for players in the area and will be designed to teach basic skating and hockey skills. First year players ages 4-9 are welcome to participate, although older players may be encouraged to register for Mites.

The Little Panthers program will offer two session options to maximize flexibility and convenience for first year families. Both groups will follow a similar curriculum.

One group will skate on Saturday mornings at 10 am starting November 4. No sessions will be held on the same weekend as holidays or home tournaments. Another session will be offered on Monday evenings at 5:30 pm starting November 6.

The cost to participate is $25 (plus a USA Hockey fee) for all sessions. Equipment will be provided to all participants for a $40 deposit. Players interested in renting equipment will need to attend the equipment fitting day on Monday, October 2 from 5-7 pm at the Ted O'Johnson Ice Arena.

Little Panthers participants will have no fundraising or volunteer requirements.

Season Overview

The Mite/8U and Mini-Mite/6U seasons typically begin in mid-October and run through February. The teams skate two to three times per week.

The association strives to provide these age groups with consistent ice times for practices. Last season, the teams had practices on Monday's at 5:30 pm, Thursday's at 5:30 pm and Saturday's at 9 or 10 am. Practices are one hour in length with a focus on teaching players the basic skills of the game with an emphasis on skating, puck control and having FUN!

After a few weeks of practices, the association will divide all players at these age groups into teams based on age and current skill levels for the purpose of participating in games against surrounding communities.

The majority of games will take place against the nearest surrounding communities including Bagley, Bemidji, Detroit Lakes, Wadena and Walker. Teams will participate in approximately 4-7 game days with 2-3 games on each of those days over the course of the season.
