Seth Heppner’s goal with 1:49 to play in regulation gave Crookston a 2-2 tie with the Park Rapids-Menahga boys hockey team in a Section 8A battle Tuesday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

Tucker Coborn scored the game’s first two goals to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead early in the second period. Sam Coborn and Kevin McMorrow assisted on a power-play goal with 3:06 to play in the first period and Dan Ricke and McMorrow assisted on Coborn’s second goal of the game a minute into the second period.

That lead held up until Morgan Terpstra scored at the 7:00 mark of the second period and Heppner scored late in the third period.

Both teams had chances in overtime, but couldn’t score.

Park Rapids goalie Ryan O’Mara finished with 30 saves, including 23 in the first two periods.

Crookston goalie Nick Biermaier made 12 saves in the third period to finish with 35 for the game.

The tie gave the Panthers a 7-3-2 record against section teams and a 15-6-2 overall mark.

Crookston, which was coming off a 1-0 win at Thief River Falls on Feb. 4, improved to 6-14-3 on the season. The Pirates, who lost at home to Park Rapids 3-2 earlier in the season, are now 2-7-1 against section teams.
